General Usage

kat5200 can be run from the command line or from a windowed environment. It will start with the last rom ran or with the GUI if no rom or BIOS found.

Basic Usage (Command Line):

kat5200 [ -c filename | -d | -vmst value] rom_file_name

The setup and control of the program is performed via the kat5200.xml configuration file. The settings may be edited directly or through the GUI menus. On a Windows system, this file is located in the program directory. On *nix systems it will be searched for in the user's home directory first (as .kat5200/kat5200.xml), then in /etc/kat5200. To override settings in the config file command line options can be used (see the options below).

Command Line Options

The following options are allowed. They can be in any order but must come before the rom_file_name.

-c filename
Loads an alternate configuration file to kat5200.xml. Full path is required.
-d
Start the program in debug mode.
-v value
Video Mode: 0 = 320x240, 1 = 344x240, 2 = 640x480, 3 = 688x480
-f value
FullScreen: 1 for Yes, 0 for No. Video mode is independant of this setting.
-h value
Hi-Res mode artifacts: 1 for Yes, 0 for No. This turns on and off the artifact colors produced in the high resolution modes.
-m value
Mouse Speed can be 1-5 with 3 as the default
-s value
Sound: 1 for On, 0 for Off
-t value
Speed throttling in percent (0 for full speed)

User Keys:

GUI Usage

The GUI will show when the emulator is started without being able to load the current rom file or BIOS or when the <ESC> key is pressed while in the emulation.

Main Menu

The main menu has buttons for loading rom files, changing configuration settings, going back to the emulation, and for quitting the program. Configuration menus are described in more detail later.

File Browser

For several configuration items, a file browser window will pop up for choosing a file or directory. In the directory list, double-clicking on a file will select the file and close the browser, double-clicking on a directory will change to that directory, double-clicking on the ".." entry will move up the directory tree. There are 3 buttons at the bottom:

When saving files, the top text box is used to determine the filename. Single- clicking on a file in the browser will place that filename in the text box, where the user may edit it if desired. Double-clicking on a file will allow the user to overwrite an existing file. Otherwise, the user must type the desired filename in the text box and either press the Ok button or press the <ENTER> key while in the text box.
